Photos: Palestine in America’s inaugural launch
Palestine in America (PiA) held a launch party for its first annual magazine last week at DePaul University and was joined by more than 100 people to celebrate Palestinian culture in the United States. The night was mixed with inspiring performances and a Palestinian produced documentary.
Palestinian-American poet Remi Kanazi performed a poems including some from his latest collection, Before the Next Bomb Drops: Rising Up from Brooklyn to Palestine. Kevin Coval, poet and writer of The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip Hop opened up for Kanazi.
The launch party kicked off with spoken word performances by Palestinian-American students and was followed by Palestinian filmmaker Ahmed Hamad showcased one of his documentaries. He followed that up with a solo debke performance accompanied by Palestinian flute player Hamze Allaham.
