Memoirs of a Stolen Land: Palestinian Identity
“Memoirs of a Stolen Land: Identity” is the sixth episode of the powerful film series. It features Aneesa Johnson an African and Palestinian American Northwestern University student who speaks about her identity and how that relates to the work she currently does for Palestine.
Johnson, a member of Students for Justice in Palestine, recently learned that her family has a rich political activism history in Palestine and that she is related to famous Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.
“I guess we have that tradition in our family of doing something for our country and our people. That really resinates with me and it makes me want to continue that tradition and actively work to help bring justice and equality for my people, just so they can live a normal life in their country,” Johnson said.
Check back for the seventh episode of the series exclusively on Palestine in America.
Zahra Haider, the producer of the video series, is originally from the Dallas metropolitan area. She is now a sophomore at Northwestern University studying journalism and film. She is involved in Northwestern News Network and the Daily Northwestern.
